What is SPY |

At St Peter’s Youth we have one simple aim: to improve the life chances of young people in the St Peter’s ward of Ashton. We do this by providing a wide range of free activities and training which meet the needs of local children, young people and their families. These activities take place 7 days a week, and include youth clubs, sports, and outdoor pursuits such as climbing. We offer training and qualifications to compliment all these activities. We also run a ‘Grow Our Own’ project, which provides local people with volunteering and training opportunities to help them get jobs in youth and community development work. We believe local people have an excellent understanding of the needs of their own communities, and can become great role models for other young people from their community. The qualifications our volunteers have achieved include sports coaching awards, NVQs in youth work, Basic Expedition Leaders Award (BELA), and Single Pitch climbing instructor’s award. Our office is at Holy Trinity Community Centre, but we also run activities at Oxford Park Community Sports Centre, Katherine Street MUGA, Holy Trinity Primary School and St Peter’s Primary School. St. Peter’s Youth is registered with The Adventure Activities Licensing Service as licensed to provide specified activities under the following headings:
Licence details can be confirmed by calling The Licensing Service. SPY is funded by the Big Lottery Fund, Working Neighbourhoods Fund, Tameside MBC, Services for Children & Young People and the Innovation Fund, Rank Foundation. |
