| St. Peter’s Partnerships set up a community locksmith service to maintain and repair the alleygates which had been installed in the St Peter’s ward of Ashton. It was suggested that this service be expanded to include a wider range of safety and security services designed to meet the needs of the local community. With the help of the Social Enterprise Plus project, Safeguard It was set up as a not-for-profit business, or social enterprise. Not long afterwards, Safeguard It was approached by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service with a view to carrying out home fire risk assessments on its behalf. Home fire risk assessments not only help save lives by preventing accidental fires, but also reduce the amount of time and money spent by the emergency services on dealing with fires which might have been prevented. |
